Uckfield Station 1965
This is a black and white photograph of the original Uckfield railway station, signal box, and level crossing, taken around 1965 shortly before the station closed to through traffic in 1967.
The original Uckfield Station was first reached by the Lewes and Uckfield Railway in October 1858.
The station building and signal box were located south of the level crossing, which had traditional four-leaf crossing gates.
The line was truncated and the station relocated to the north side of the level crossing with a new platform in 1991.
The preserved signal box, painted in Southern Railway colours, now serves as a taxi office.
The image features a British Rail Class 108 diesel multiple unit, with the number S60124 visible on the side.
