This image captures the main entrance of Hellingly Hospital (formerly the East Sussex County Asylum) in Sussex, likely in the early 20th century.

The hospital was built around the turn of the twentieth century to address overcrowding at the Haywards Heath Asylum.

It was designed by architect George Thomas Hine and was considered one of the most advanced asylum designs of its time.

With the formation of the NHS in 1948, it was renamed Hellingly Hospital.

The hospital was eventually closed, and the main building was demolished in 1994.
