This image captures a moment at Hailsham railway station on its last day of operation, September 7, 1968.
The station was the terminus of a branch line, known as part of the "Cuckoo Line", which connected to Polegate.
Passenger services on the line were withdrawn the following day, September 8, 1968.
The train seen is a 2-H unit, which provided a shuttle service to and from Polegate.
The Cuckoo Line originally opened in stages, with the branch to Hailsham beginning service on May 14, 1849.
