This is a photograph of the former Polegate "A" signal box and railway junction, with the Cuckoo Line branching off to the right.

The image dates to the late 1950s

The Cuckoo Line was built by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway (LB&SCR).

Following the Beeching Report in 1963, the line was recommended for closure, with the section from Eridge to Hailsham closing to passenger traffic in 1965.

The former trackbed is now part of the Cuckoo Trail, a popular walking and cycling path.
