This image captures a moment at the now-closed Hailsham railway station in Sussex.

The station was part of the "Cuckoo Line" between Polegate and Hellingly.

Originally built in 1849, the station was known for its role in transporting the town's main trade of rope, twine, and sacking.

Following the Beeching Report in 1963, the line was recommended for closure, and the section from Eridge to Hailsham closed to passenger traffic in 1965.

Hailsham station remained open with a shuttle service from Polegate until its final closure on September 8, 1968.

The former line has since been converted into the Cuckoo Trail, a popular walking and cycling path.
