The image captures a moment at Heathfield Station in June 1962, looking south.

Heathfield Station was on the Cuckoo Line between Horam and Mayfield, East Sussex.

The line between Hailsham and Eridge, on which the station was situated, opened in 1880.

The station was closed to passenger trains in 1965 as part of the Beeching cuts.

The station was sited at the bottom of a hill, punctured by the 265-yard-long Heathfield Tunnel to the north.

The former railway line has since been converted into a walking and cycling route known as the Cuckoo Trail.
