The image is an aerial photograph of the former Hellingly Hospital, a large psychiatric hospital located near Hailsham, East Sussex.

The hospital, originally known as the East Sussex County Asylum, was designed by G.T. Hine and opened in 1903.

It was built to address overcrowding at the Haywards Health Asylum and could house nearly two thousand patients at its peak.

The site had its own electric tramway, the Hellingly Hospital Railway, used to transport goods from the main line to the boiler house.

Following deinstitutionalization policies, the hospital began to wind down operations in the 1980s and ultimately closed in the mid-1990s.

A modern medium secure mental health unit, the Hellingly Centre, now operates on a different part of the grounds.
