This image captures a moment at Hailsham railway station in September 1968, shortly before its closure.

The station was part of the "Cuckoo Line," which ran from Polegate to Eridge.

It was a terminus from 1849 to 1880 before the line was extended.

The station officially closed to passengers on September 8, 1968, as part of the Beeching Axe cutbacks.

A shuttle service to Polegate was provided until the very end.

All physical evidence of the station was eventually cleared away during the construction of Lindfield Drive.
