The locomotive No. 80139 was a British Railways (BR) Standard Class 4MT 2-6-4T steam engine. 

The photo was taken at Hailsham, East Sussex, on the line that ran from Polegate to Eridge via Hailsham and Heathfield.

The locomotive was later seen at Eastleigh shed in August 1966. 

The line through Hailsham was closed to passenger traffic in 1968 as part of the Beeching cuts.
